The real way to have thanksgiving!

C-Lab and Jeffrey Inaba recently collaborated with One Pot, with support from and , to design a dinner table for 60 guests. This charity fund raising event was hosted in New York’s Park Avenue Armory, a rare Louis Comfort Tiffany interior.
The design required sixty linear feet of table surface in a slim thirty-five feet of available floor space. C-Lab creatively designed the Z-Top, not just fitting with in the spatial constraints, but also developing an immediate interaction among guests, prompting more informal discussion areas between courses, and cutting down the overall distance between diners.

Western Red Cedar: Beautiful, Versatile, Sustainable.
Western red cedar has unique, natural performance characteristics and exceptional beauty that bring warmth, character and longevity to homes and commercial buildings around the world. It is this bundle of properties that has made "cedar" the choice of discerning architects, builders and homeowners alike.

October 18, 2010 Research Symposium.

Art through psychoanalysis- Joshua Bienko.
Joshua talked about the empty gesture that a person gives another person, for example, a smiple question such as How are you doing? No one really wants to know the full story of how someone else is actually doing. He also talked about that art is the only thing worth teaching, everything else is a dead end. Math is a dead end, it is not worth teaching. Contemporary art is movement and opposite, it is not the same language as something before it. Dr. Nichols would not buy "The Bienko" or hang it above his sofa.

Interesting: Boring

Very good speaker!!!

Karen Hillier, I remember.
Hillier talked about Louise Bourgeois, a French American painter and sculptor. Who you are comes out in your art, for example, she Made sculptures of spiders to resemble her mother, fierce but frail. She resembled a lot of her art to resemble her memories. Hillier expressed her own work that she has been working on. She takes garments and integrate them with projections, she plays with scale and transparency. Lately she has been working with a composer out of Denton for a show that premiers on December 3. The boys and girls clothes are the same other than a blue or pink strip and a ruffle or two. Parents place these distinctions on the kids so they can classify their kids, kids do not understand the distinction.

While on the topic of temples here is another one that my family has visited on vacation. It is in Kansas City, Missouri called Community of Christ Temple.

On the left is the exterior of the temple and on the right is the interior looking up at the spire.

This summer I was lucky enough to go to Hawaii with one of my friends and her family. We met up with a couple friends from College Station that are originally from Hawaii. They took us through the back roads and showed us some "local" attractions. This is one of them:

It is called a Byodoin Temple.

a couple furniture drawings:)

On the top I have drawn a standing light fixture. It will be made out of medal or wood, it will consist of an illuminated clock on the base and a lampshade with a skeleton of the material used below it with some ride paper to take away direct light. On the bottom page I have a lamp made out of wood. the upper portion of the lamp will be made with wood squares staggered with rice paper to resist any direct light. Below that is a hanging four sided clock illimuniated fixture. This is a medal piece and the light will shine out of the top and bottom along with the numbers that are cut out.
In this sketch i have a standing lamp made out of medal. Some features that I have planned for this are rope lights running through the stand to give it some extra spark, also in the lamp shade square pieces of medal will be cut out and attached by wire. To avoid direct light rice paper will be behind the medal squares to give off the perfect amound of light needed:).

This is on the cover of an Architectural product magazine published in December of 2008. The building is called Lucille Halsell Conservatory and is located in San Antonio, TX. I like the structure of the building and the use of glass along with the illuminating affects.

Journal Entry 1 (continued)

On the left I found some neat finishes found in a magazine called Architectural Products. The top is a back lit frosted glass stair rail and on the bottom is a rotating sprayer used in a shower. On the right, also found in Architectural Products, is a building that uses Solar Gard window film. It blocks out solar heat while allowing in natural light. This helps owners cut down on AC costs, blocks out close to 100% of UV light, and protects the color and quality of interior furnishings all while reducing glare and preserving outdoor views.

Journal Entry 1: GREATTTTTTTTT ARCHITECTURE

The fire station above shows great design and use of materials. I love the contrast of the stone up against the cherry woodstain. The fire station fits great in with it location and gives Texas a great name:)

This fire station was designed by BRW Architects.
